City Govt’s PESO helps 3 distressed Kidapaweño OFW’s reunite with families

City Mayor Joseph Evangelista ordered the PESO to coordinate with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and Department of Foreign Affairs after hearing the plight of the distressed OFW’s.

The three are working as overseas household workers the PESO said.

They are Maricel Lingatong who is deployed in Malaysia, Remelyn Aguirre and Josephine Shimura both working in Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Lingatong who is from Barangay Singao and Aguirre from Sudapin complained of maltreatment from their employers and were forced to work for long hours without day offs, their families said.

On the other hand, Shimura was repatriated for health reasons after her husband, Mua-an Barangay Chair Azer Perez reported to the PESO of her lingering illness while working abroad.

After thorough verification, the PESO then coordinated with the DFA and OWWA for the repatriation of the said distressed OFW’s.
Aguirre was the first to arrive in the country and reunited with her loved ones on October 31, 2019.

It was Lingatong’s turn to come home safely on December 26, 2019 while Shimura was reunited with her family on January 8, 2020.

They were grateful for the immediate assistance from the City Government, OWWA and DFA for their safe return home.

Lingatong, Aguirre and Shimura paid a visit and extended their gratitude to the PESO on January 15, 2020.##(CIO/lkoasay/with a report from Ms. Juvy Calunsag of the PESO)
